本地藝術與收藏
正/側畫廊的成立,讓藝術家可以自由自在地發表作品,不會因不斷擁至的商業畫廊而有所牽制或影響展出的機會,還希望實踐藝術與廣大的本土人士溝通,期望獲得她/他們以收藏藝術品作支持藝術的發展和研究,一同建構本土藝術,及文化交流的工作。
正/側畫廊鼓勵藝術的獨立自主發展,沒有前設的想像,也不會受地方、環境、大小、性別等的限制;策展團隊以彼此學習、互相幫助、與不同人士合作等態度,使藝術有持續的發展。
除了作品需要有專業的發展外,正/側畫廊更以 Easy to Take Home 的口號去鼓勵特別是本土市民收藏作品。支持者可以以收藏/鼓勵/贈送朋友的目的,去購買本地藝術家的優秀作品,發掘/了解/栽培本土文化的承傳發展。
本地收藏還是在起步階段,正/側畫廊正努力站在大眾的角度去實踐本地支持藝術發展的行動。

有關 神作的是這樣 (鄧凝梅撰文)
一條條懸掛在正畫廊的作品,有着一種肉色,偏向粉紅色的外層,由其中走出一些啡色的線狀物。那一條條的使人聯想起一些粗壯的樹枝,而線狀物就像一些植物的氣根。但是那會有肉色的樹枝啊?那些氣根看來就像是一些長長的啡頭髮呢?在那肉色而透明的外層下,可以看到很多釘,並不整齊地釘在那樹幹內。釘的數目非常多,在那扭曲的樹幹內,使我感受到那每一口釘的力度,從而聯想起釘所引起的痛楚。那肉色的樹幹如果是人的四肢,我彷彿看到扭曲的肢體正在受苦。
曾到藝術家魏貝妮的工作地點,接觸過她的院友。都是一些外表和我們一樣,內裏卻是活在另一國度的人。有一些是外表和我大同小異,內裏卻和我們無異。我感覺到我看到了在個人的軀殼內有著一個受苦的靈魂、一個天真純潔的靈魂、一個被困的靈魂、一個和我們一樣尊貴的靈魂。
在社會上有些人是很少接觸一些和我們有差異的人,我們可能會遠遠行開,更有些投以好奇的目光。願我們記得這展覽會的標題:神作的是這樣。
再到側畫廊,看到魏貝妮比較鮮豔的作品。有紅、有橙、有綠。同樣的透明布料,形狀像是襪子。穿在脚掌上,有著扭曲、痛楚的感覺。使人想起了行每一步的吃力和苦楚。
我們每一天習以為常的行動、呼吸等等,在其它人身上是要付出很大的努力、能力才能做到。他們每天就好像一個戰士,他們要去征服的就是去吸一口氣、行一步路、做一動作,這樣的人我是十分尊敬的。
藝術家魏貝妮把她工作中接觸的人、透過藝術作品帶到我們面前,使我感受到藝術家在社會中的位置是無可置疑的!

有關<後院: 藝術家合作計劃>
後院是一個隱密的個人空間。 它可以隱喻為人們現實生活背後的思想世界; 它是內在的,並不是對外的。 李氏與郝氏兩位新進藝術家各自有著不同的生活方式, 信仰, 態度和經歷。 是次乃他們的首次合作。從旁觀者的角度, 透過影像和創作從那些表象的日常生活, 深入探索藝術家各自內在不同層次的意識和思維。在兩段不同的歷程之中, 某些聲音卻是互相回響。
影片沒有套入任何一種形式或類別當中, 藝術家只想利用影像去記錄, 去尋找, 去觀察, 去思考, 又或許只是純粹地去訴說; 然而是次合作計劃也可看成一連串的自我發現, 同時也希望觀眾在欣賞作品之外更可廷伸閱讀到藝術家的靈魂。

李漢凌畢業於澳洲墨爾本理工大學(香港藝術學院合辨), 主修繪畫。李氏是一位認真的新進藝術家。畢業後他致力籌備和參與各類形不同的展覽和活動, 如: <在他們的洞穴- 一個有關繪畫的展覽>, <在他們與它們彼此之間>, <從觀看到閱讀> 和<回憶是飲料>。在2011年李氏加入了正/側畫廊成為策展團隊之一。

Front/ Side Gallery sincerely invites you to our 4th exhibition: <Backyard: Artist Collaboration Project>, and video screening. 24/03/2012, Saturday 7:15pm at Front/ Side Gallery. Let's come to appreciate the Artists's lastest Artworks, and to enjoy the refreshment that we have prepared for you and have an relaxing evening. Please come and join us!
Backyard is a private space. It can be personified as the internal world of our real life. Young artists Ramon and Benjamin have different life-style, religions, attitudes and experiences. This is their first joint project. They try to explore their internal conscious and thoughts through images and creations from the third party's prospective and there are some echos in these two different aspect.
And the artists don't want to define the video as any art form, they just want to use video as a way to record, seek, observe, think or simply to say something. On the other hand it can also be treated as a self-discovery, at the same time they also wish the audiences can discover the artists' soul behind the artworks.

Li Hon Ling, Ramon graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (Co-presented with Hong Kong Art School). Having majored in painting, Li is a young and sincere artist. Since graduating he has never stopped preparing and takes part in different kinds of exhibitions and projects, such as “In Their Caves - An Exhibition about Painting”, “In Between One and Others”, “From Seeing to Reading” and “Memory is Soft Drinks”. In 2011, he joined Front/Side Gallery as the member of curatorial team at the JCCAC.

The Art of Life – ‘God makes us like this’
It is often said that “life is art”, or “art is life”; we often seek to establish a relationship between art and life. Since there is a massive variance in the mode and content of every person’s daily existence, how is life revealed in art?
Bellini’s daily work involves largely with disabled people. She organizes art activities for them, hoping to help the handicapped to rekindle the fire of their lives. At the same time, she works relentlessly as an artist. The fact that her patients became an inspiration for her art has come as a pleasant surprise. After visiting her workplace, her patients and the exhibitions she puts together for them, I have come to grasp the profound sense of empathy and involvement necessary for Bellini’s occupation. How does a so-called “normal” person cope with and take care of people so different from her, people that others would consider peculiar? How does she immerse herself in the lives and feelings of those people?
Being born left-handed, Bellini had endured since childhood the distress of having an "odd" physical feature. Now, she tries to empathize with her patients' inner agony beneath their frail bodies, and their pain of having to face the discriminating look scattered on them. Life offers a myriad kind of experiences; yet the depth of each experience varies from the individual. The eagerness to share other’s feelings and to transform them into art sometimes requires one to relinquish the noble ideal about art but to embrace and celebrate humanity instead.
Bellini works in bold and straightforward ways to illustrate her subject matter: translucent sculptural forms with metal bolts bulging through, representing tree trunks. The juxtaposition of the warm, soft hues and the crude, heavy metal creates stunning visual effects but, at the same time, inspires a sense of awe in the viewer. Human beings are so different from one another, and there are numerous types of people in society. One’s understanding of the term “general folks” has to comprise more than one kind of people. Similarly, art and life are to be appreciated and understood according to their subtlety, intensity and diversity.

生活的藝術 - <神作的, 是這樣> 魏貝妮個人裝置藝術個展 (文﹕鄧凝姿)
很多人這樣說﹕「生活就是藝術」或是「藝術就是生活」,不外乎強調生活與藝術的互相影響。但每個人的生活樣式/內容都不樣,究竟生活中的藝術可以是怎麼樣的﹖
魏貝妮的日間工作就跟身體殘缺的人士有關。她為身體有障礙的人士組織藝術活動,希望她/他們從藝術中重拾人生的趣味,並以此作為日常生活中的持續創作。誰不知這些工作上的對象卻成為她創作的源泉。筆者參觀過她工作的地方、人物和為當事人籌備的展覽,明白到這份工作所需要的認同和投入感。一個所謂的正常人如何面對與自己不一樣的人士﹖如何去感受其生活的處境﹖
貝妮以自己用左手寫字的親身體驗、進入殘障人士的生活感受中,為這些「非一般」的人生角色抱不平,用釘和薄紗去覆蓋脆弱身體下難以啟齒的傷痛、及其所面對生活中的不平等眼光。生活的層面有多種,但生活的感覺卻有深淺之分,懂得分享別人的感受、又願意轉化在藝術中,需要放棄藝術中高貴的概念,把世界擁在身上。
貝妮的作品以象形及相當直接的形式出現﹕透明而扭曲的樹幹造型和毫不遮掩的鐵釘﹔柔和的色彩加上冰硬的金屬,製造出富美感但又難以凝視的景致。人生中有百樣人,所謂「一般」的人,又何只一類呢﹖同樣,藝術與生活也有「輕」、「重」及「多樣」之分。
